Ferdinand saw sporting director Dan Ashworth’s departure from the club after just five months as a ruthless measure from the Old Trafford bosses.

Manchester United have endured a dismal season and Saturday’s 3-2 defeat to Nottingham Forest left them 13th in the Premier League.

Old Trafford bosses decided to stick with Erik ten Hag despite a poor league campaign last season and then sacked the Dutchman just a few months into the current campaign.

Ten Hag’s replacement, ex-Sporting Lisbon boss Ruben Amorim, has taken four points from his first league games in charge.
